Potato hockey, yes, potato hockey. I have just started this book tonight, and being the slow, relaxed reader that I am in have only just started chapter two. Of course I believe to have this book complete by the end of next week but maybe I will surprise myself and finish it early. I have enjoy what I have read so far. The first chapter consist of four main characters, Sam, Ramon, Frank, and Brook, at their place of employment, Plumuy's, the neighbor fast-food restaurant. Due to the fact that they were working the night shift, business was slow and easy for them to have a small game of Potato hockey in the back lot of the restaurant. Potato hockey is much like real hockey of course but with a potato or tubbier as they say in the book. At this point we are invited to read/watch a exciting game of trash talking and player swapping to keep the restaurant and game going at the same time, including a smashing final hit which causes the goal, a classic Mercedes car's tail light to break. This concludes the first chapter. The began of chapter two start with the closing of Plumuy's. The owner of the Mercedes walks in complaining about the tail light thinking someone in the restaurant knows what happen but of course the group of kids working telling him that they know nothing about it. The man has the feeling they are lying and soon grabs Sam by the arm. This is where things get interesting. A current of electricity pass through the both of them and the owner, now unconcerned about the light, is asking Sam different questions about his past and who he truly is. So far this book has been exciting and I love the playfulness that McBride has put into this group of kids.
